2,681 cabbies fined for traffic violations.
The Traffic and patrols department of the Abu Dhabi Police has issued 2,681 fines to cabbies during the first four months of this year, in an intensified campaign following complaints from the residents.
Lt.Col.Ahmed Al Sheihi, head of the Capital traffic patrol section said the campaign was carried out during January to April.
The majority of the fines were issued for wrong parking, dropping and picking up passengers from undesignated areas, hindering of traffic flow. All the fines were issued in the city alone.
Other offences included non display of the identities of the drivers which is mandatory on both the front seats and back seats, 350 fines were issued for not having taxi permits, 135 for plying with expired permits and nine for not carrying their driving licenses, he added.
