Unacceptable behaviors during matches do not comply with our values and traditions
While Abu Dhabi, the capital of UAE is gearing up for the FIFA Club World Cup, all football fans are happy to be at the heart of the coming global event. But this atmosphere of pleasure may be disturbed by unbecoming and irresponsible behaviors and conducts which some youths incline to. Such unacceptable behaviors may tarnish the civilized image and stature of the country and its deep-rooted Arab traditions and norms.
The Department of Technical Affairs and Security Media at the Secretariat General of the Office of HH the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and as part of its campaign under the theme " Abu Dhabi Police: One Team. One Goal. Your Safety" has carried out an opinion poll to learn about the causes of this abnormal behavior and methods of tackling it.
Sport is a human duty
According to Dr. Ahmed Al Kibeisi, one of the respondents, sport is a duty like work for living. Our religion encourages us to exercise different types of sports activities. Without sport one can waste his life.
Role of Media and other Institutions
Some young men behave in an unacceptable way when their teams win or lose the match. Dr Al Kibeisi says:" We have to face such behaviors with patience and tolerance, as the youth are always enthusiastic". But still we can say that media has the power to manipulate then mentalities of the community. Unfortunately I have not seen any programme in our Arab media that deal with acceptable behaviors during sports activities. I believe that educational organizations and families should include such issues in their students and children education.
At the end of his view Dr. Al Kibeisi he has congratulated the fans and to act in a responsible way in case of win or lose.
Wrong group behavior
According to Dr. Mahmood Al Shazali, Psychiatrist, interaction with the playing team and enthusiasm by the fans and supporters are natural and popular among the youths. But exaggerated cheering, unbecoming behaviors and causing damage to public properties and others are not acceptable. Such deeds indicate that the individual involved can not control his feelings and mental processes, without taking the consequences into account. Such persons are passionately not mature, if they grown up.
Role of cheerleaders
Dr. Al Shazali has stated that protection against such unacceptable behaviors can be achieved through a balanced upbringing of different aspects of mental and emotional growth. Some parents deal leniently with their child when he assaults other child, but they do not do this when their child is assaulted by other child. Media efforts shall address target football supporters, the youth segments. They can teach them how to express their feelings in a positive way. Cheer leagues shall be supported to play a leading role in directing the behaviors of fans and spectators.
