The Law Respect Culture Office in the General Secretariat of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior urges motorists to enhance their traffic safety by following the speed limit and taking into consideration the location, weather, and vehicle as well as other safety and legal requirements.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Salah Obeid Al Ghoul, Director of the Law Respect Culture Office, the General Secretariat of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, called upon the youth to respect traffic laws for their own safety and for the safety of pedestrians and drivers. He stressed on the importance of the traffic awareness initiative to avoid risks associated with reckless driving. This initiative was launched by the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and urges commitment to traffic rules while driving and not to overtake other vehicles to avoid being victims of run over accidents.

Lt. Col. Salah Al Ghoul added that the provisions enclosed in the Federal Law No. 21 for the year 1995 concerning traffic and its regulations addresses all drivers, whether they drive light or heavy vehicles or motorcycles, or any other means of transport.

He stated that the first article of the law defines the vehicle as any machine or usual bicycle, motorcycle, vehicle, or any other device running on the road by mechanical strength or any other means; therefore, all the provisions of the law and the ministerial decisions issued therein were applied to motorists and all the other categories.

Lt. Col. Salah Al Ghoul pointed out that the youth represent an important category in UAE society and are an example for children. Children consider their older peers as an example to follow with regard to their behaviors and actions. He further explained that that youth who possess a driving license after reaching the legal age become legally and ethically responsible toward their society; they should not send negative messages to the younger generations, He also stated that these young role models should not be  irresponsible or lack moral sense.

He continued: “These youths are the real wealth of the nation and its main pillar in its development and renaissance. Every moment that a young member of our society loses his life or his physical ability, the nation loses an integral part of its human wealth upon which it builds its success and achievement.”

He called on youth to preserve their country by safeguarding their lives, and to reflect a civilized image of their country to visitors and tourists; the way members of a community use roads gives a first impression to visitors about the level of civilization and law compliance of society.

He pointed out that the state has secured all the necessary means for youth to express themselves and expend their energy including finding them special locations to practice all types of sports. This fact puts the responsibility on youth to not use public roads and streets for showing off and engaging in various displays of stunts and young-like arts. He stressed that the law will deal with anyone who puts his own life or the lives of others at risk, or commits any act that trespasses on the rights of others to security and safety on the road. Preserving the lives and safety of individuals is the priority of the country, and defying this safety is a red line that is not to be crossed.

Al Ghoul urged road users in general not to put the lives of pedestrians at risk and to stop when necessary to avoid disturbing or injuring any user of the road. He also warned everybody against omitting traffic offenses, which entails criminal liability, such as driving or intending to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs,
