Jumping traffic signal is a dangerous human mistake
The total number of deaths due to jumping red light in Abu Dhabi Emirate last year was 9 and 20 people sustained sever injuries due to these accidents.
Colonel Khamis Ishaq, Deputy Director of Traffic and patrols at ADP confirms that intensified traffic civilian-type and military patrols will continue around the clock at different intersections on internal and external roads of Abu Dhabi. Motorists who jump the red light will be booked in presence. The punishment will be Dh500 in fine, the vehicle will be impounded for 15 days and 8 traffic points will be registered against the driver.2240 offences of red light jump were registered last year.
The vehicles which jump the red light, due to their high speed, will involve in severe accidents with vehicles coming from other directions. Deaths and severe injuries will result from such accidents.
He indicates the efforts made to curb such dangerous accidents, which include awareness campaigns to raise the level of traffic safety. Intermittent green light has been introduced to draw drivers' attention when approaching traffic signal intersection. Use of radars and surveillance systems at signal lights intersections have been expanded to spot offenders.
He urges motorists o the occasion of the 26th GCC Traffic Week, under the theme "Beware Others Mistakes" not to speed up to catch the green light before changing to amber and red, so as to avoid collision with other vehicles. Few seconds may cost you and your passengers their lives, or may sustain severe injuries.
Motorists shall abide by light signals significances. During red light they should stop completely. You should not move when it is changed to amber light which means preparation to stop or to move when it changes to green. During Intermittent amber light you can move but with care. The arrow sign at intersections means adherence to the direction indicted by the arrow. For pedestrians, the green light means you are allowed to cross and the red means you should stop until the light is changed to green.
