Al Raisi: Iris Scanning prohibits 235 thousand deportees from returning back

Major general Ahmed Nasser Al Risi, Director General of Central Operations at ADP and Deputy Chairman of the High Organizing Committee of the International Security National Resilience Exhibition and Conference (ISNR 2010), and Chairman of MoI Pavilion at the Exhibition said in a statement "1,894,926 eye prints have been registered through Iris Scanning system from 947,463 persons. The System has prevented 235,000 deportees from entering the country again through the country airports, since the introduction of the System in 2002".

"26 iris Scanning Points will be introduced at Abu Dhabi Emirate Police Stations this year to identify persons who do not carry IDs" He added on the side lines of ISNR.

Eye scanning of persons during movement is being conducted on a trial basis, to be introduced at lately, to ease the formalities at entry and exit points, to avoid congestions and to shorten times of waiting, he added. This would support ADP partnership with other parties. The distinguished services provided by Abu Dhabi International Airport require support to give a bright picture of the country.

Enquiry counters are available at the Preventive Medicine Centers, where all eye scan of all expatriates will be taken whenever they visit these centers for service. This will enable us to collect as large number of eye prints as possible.

The Iris Scanning System is designed to bar the already deported persons from coming back to the country; it maintains security and stability and characterizes ADP by keeping pace with modern means of policing in different areas for better services.

The System has succeeded in detecting persons who applied Atropine Drops to dilate eye iris, where the System would not be able to read their iris print. But all cases have been detected by doing the scan after some time for the same person. This indicates the high efficiency and professionalism by which ADO confront illegal behaviors.

The System has proved its efficiency and accuracy in detecting all attempts of deported persons from reentering the Country, after changing their names and getting entry visas whether for visit or work.

Major Mohammad Salim Haboosh, Head of Security Systems Section at ADP has explained the working method of Iris Scanning by highly advanced cameras where the details go to a database. The eye print can easily compared with million eye prints accurately and very quickly. The cameras in use are specially designed to accommodate the large numbers of users.

According to ADP information, no irises of two persons are similar. Even the iris of the left aye differs from that of the right eye in one person. Twins irises are also different. It does not affected by age progress. It gains its permanent features after the eighth month of birth and it is protected by the cornea from outside and nature elements.
