Abu Dhabi Police GHQ launched today a media campaign to educate the public about the dangers of fireworks
“Launching this media campaign in the last days of Ramadan embodies the strategy of Abu Dhabi Police in educating the pubic mainly kids and youngsters about playing with fireworks which cause huge danger on them and on the surroundings”, said Major General Mohammed Al Awadhi Al Menhali, director general of Abu Dhabi Police Operations.
“The campaign, conducted by the Security Media Department, includes awareness programs and journalistic materials, using the state-of-the-art technologies to enhance the public awareness about the negative effects of fireworks”, stated Al Awadhi.
The campaign is focusing on warning the pubic about the dangers of playing with fireworks which causes injuries and disabilities especially among children and youngsters.
He called the members of the public to report any such practices by calling emergency 999, or through Aman service by calling 8002626 or sending SMS to 2828. Calls are taken in Arabic and English.
Playing with fireworks increases during Eid and occasions as some parents allow their kids to play with fireworks without being aware of their dangers on children.
Sparks and heat produced when using fireworks are main causes for body injuries, specially the sensitive eye area. The ashes resulted from combustion harms the skin and the eye in case children get in direct contact with them. This might lead to entry of foreign bodies in the eye, or retinal detachment, and might even lead to total loss of vision.
Fireworks also cause chemical and physical pollution, and both are dangerous. If fireworks are stored in a wrong way, this would lead to disastrous consequences.
