Through its media discourse, Abu Dhabi Police succeeded in reaching the Malayalam speaking individuals residing in the state, in order to educate them on the risks of drugs and alcohol abuse, traffic accidents, and insufficient funds checks; to acquaint them with the Residency and Labor Law and encourage violators to regularize their statuses.
These awareness messages are published among Indian nationals residing in the state, via the Siraj Malayalam daily newspaper issued in the UAE, with an estimated number of readers of 600 thousand people from the Indian Community in the UAE, following a memorandum of understanding between the two sides; to publish press awareness messages on the last page, once a week for one year and a half.
Lokesh Mysore Kapanaiah, India’s Ambassador to the UAE, expressed his country's deep thanks and appreciation for the efforts exerted by the Ministry of the Interior, represented by Abu Dhabi Police, in educating his country's nationals on the risks of some phenomena and in acquainting them with police services.
M.K. Lokesh praised the efforts of H.H Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in supporting such initiatives, stressing his government's willingness to host His Highness, in order to promote more security cooperation between the two countries.
He noted in a message received by the Security Media Department; at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, that Abu Dhabi Police’s initiative to communicate with members of the Indian community through awareness messages published in the Siraj newspaper is a good, distinguished and unique initiative, as he put it.
Ambassador M.K. Lokesh added that throughout his diplomatic career in a number of countries, he has not seen such a generous gesture, urging the members of the Indian community in the state to reciprocate this generosity and kindness by complying with the laws of the UAE, and exert further efforts to maintain its gains of development and progress in all areas.
With respect to Abu Dhabi Police’s follow-up of the initiative, India’s Ambassador to the UAE Lokesh Mysore Kapanaiah met with Lt. Col. Khalid Al Shamsi, of the Security Media Department. Ambassador M.K. Lokesh emphasized the good relations between his country and the UAE; praising the community initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Interior.
M.K. Lokesh added that the awareness topics published by the Abu Dhabi Police in one of the Indian newspapers over the past two years, enabled the Indian Community members to get acquainted with the local laws and regulations; the required procedures to complete the various transactions; the rules of conduct, as well as all issues related to security and safety, of interest to residents; pointing out that the language chosen to communicate with them succeeded in delivering this information clearly.
Moreover, Ambassador M.K. Lokesh expressed his joy and appreciation with the results of the survey conducted by the Security Media Department, which showed a significant decrease in crime and accidents rates involving members of the Indian community; attributing this to the Ministry of Interior’s initiative in educating his country's nationals.
