Captain Abdul Nasser Hassan Rashid Al Zaabi, form the Police College obtained a PhD degree from the College of Law at the University of Sharjah, for his thesis titled “the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)”.

In his study, the researcher concluded that the emergence of the International Renewable Energy Agency came as an answer to the increasing global awareness of the need to find sustainable sources of energy, as well as to protect the environment. “The UAE is a major and most important donor to the Agency. Moreover, hosting IRENA’s new headquarters would pave the way to further relations of cooperation; and allow leadership in the renewable energy bid. It would also provide the UAE with ability to face the different challenges to its leading position in the renewable energy usage, such as the legislative, coordinative, and investment-related challenges,” he said.

Moreover, Captain Al Zaabi recommended forming a joint committee between the UAE and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), in order to take decisions regarding some of the issues stipulated by in the IRENA Headquarters Agreement, which needs further follow-up and better regulation. He also called for establishing the Federal Renewable Energy Authority; drafting a federal legislation to regulate and control the use of renewable energy in the country.
