The Forensic Evidence Department at the General Department for Security and Ports at the Abu Dhabi Police handled 7,514 cases, which included a total of 18,119 samples, during the first half of this year.

Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Hammadi, Director of the Forensic Evidence Department, said that the cases varied between documents, machine traces, poisons, drugs, forensic biology, fires, forensic chemistry, and photography.

The Forensic Evidence Department in Abu Dhabi City has executed 6,442 cases and Al Ain had 936 cases while the Western Region carried out 136 cases.

Colonel Al Hammadi highlighted the achievements during the first half of this year, which included  activating the weapons fingerprint system and integrating the system’s samples at the state level. The achievements with regard to weapons also included the ability to carry out microscopic comparisons in addition to facilitating an ammunition sciences and types program. Additionally, the international accreditation of the Fires Division was also renewed with the establishment of the Electric Tests Branch.

“The Chemical Tests Division passed the test of the Association of Official Racing Chemists (AORC), as we also executed three scientific research programs that will be presented in September 2013 in the USA. We also established the Car Paint Database and received the initial accreditation for the heavy element blood tests from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS),” he added.

“We have organized lectures at the Police College for officers participating in criminal investigations and document forgery, inviting forensic evidence experts. The department also executed a number of important cases related to visas and stamps of embassies outside the UAE. We participated in publishing a manual on taking and releasing samples. We are also now organizing training courses on photography for the juvenile inmates at the Al Mafraq Prison,” Colonel Al Hammadi continued.
