The General Directorate of Civil Defense Abu Dhabi explained that kitchens are among the places most vulnerable to fires due to negligence and lack of knowledge of all the protective requirements to be taken to protect lives and property.

Families called for the need not to leave the kitchen for long periods during cooking and stay away from wearing flammable clothes and cleaning suction fans and surfaces of oils and dust, keep all flammable materials away from cooking areas, check gas extensions and make sure that the cylinders are closed before going to sleep, separate electrical appliances in case they are not used, keep children away from cooking areas, install heat and gas detector in the kitchen, have adequate ventilation in the kitchen and make sure that the electrical appliances conform to the approved local specifications.

ADP stressed her interest in educating families through initiatives and programmes aimed at enhancing community awareness of all kinds of fires that can occur in the home, knowing the fire tools used to put them out, developing an emergency plan, including how family members and domestic workers behave in the event of a fire, and assigning a family member to alert, wake up and evacuate children, the elderly and those concerned during the emergency to avoid fire incidents.
