UAE nationals and residents considered the Abu Dhabi Police awareness campaign on the risks of modified vehicles and motorbikes, a good step towards curbing this phenomenon that leads to noise pollution. They expressed the irritation and inconvenience these vehicles cause due to their loud noise, and their risks on other people as well.

The awareness campaign is implemented by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate in Abu Dhabi Police, in coordination with Security Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior. It aims to spread awareness among individuals on the risks of this phenomenon.

Negative Phenomenon Causing Inconvenience and Irritation to Residents

UAE national, Abdul Rahman Ba Faqir, the owner of a car rent agency said commenting on the topic: “modifying vehicles poses great risk on the life of drivers and pedestrians, and cases great inconvenience to residents.” He noted that such modifications are a very negative phenomenon that should be met with firm actions, and drivers of such vehicles should be held responsible.

He commended the efforts made by Abu Dhabi Police represented by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate through extensive monitoring, and control campaigns to detain violating vehicles that have additions to the their engines.

Salih Ali, a Yemeni national residing in Bani Yas area, asserted that young owners of modified vehicles get together in gatherings that cause irritation and inconvenience to residents, noting that their negative behaviors such as drifting and racing on city roads could result in accidents that might threaten the lives of pedestrians, and cause damage to other parked vehicles.

He added that most of those young owners deliberately drive their vehicle in ways that produce loud annoying noises even at late night hours, saying that such behaviors led to actions taken by Abu Dhabi Police to curb this phenomenon. He referred to the positive aspects of the awareness campaign launched in monitoring and detaining vehicles modified with additions to their engines.

UAE national, Um Muhammed called for more monitoring in residential areas, noting that some youngsters modify their vehicles thinking that it will offer them extra benefits in terms of their vehicles’ engines or exterior profile, however, they are threating their own lives and the lives of others in the street by doing so.

She commended the efforts made by Abu Dhabi Police in organizing programmes and traffic awareness campaigns in several governmental institutes, to promote the relation between police work and other categories of the community, saying that the launch of the Traffic and Patrol Directorate campaign for monitoring and detaining modified vehicles next month at the beginning of summers and holidays season, is significant and will be a deterrent for youngsters in this regard.

Environmental Culture Spread by Abu Dhabi Police

Mr. Khaled Hassan Al Hosani, Board Member of Environment Friends Association, and Manager of the Association’s Public Relation Department said that the launch of such campaign by Abu Dhabi Police will contribute in preserving the environment due to negative impacts of such modifications on the environment. He explained that the engine in these cases burns more fuel, hence produces more carbon emissions through the exhaust, which affects the environment.
