Dh 50 as a nominal fee for hit-and-run accidents

Saaed reduces the fees of minor accidents

Saaed Traffic Systems Company has decided to reduce the fee for minor accident reports caused by motorists from Dh500 to Dh300, with effect from First January 2010. The reduction does not include accidents that take place before that date.

The Company also has approved a fee of Dh50 for the services of accident reports against unknown parties. Colonel Hussain Ahmed Al Harthi, Chairman of the Company's Board of Directors and Director of Traffic Engineering and Road Safety Department at ADP Traffic and Patrols Department, stated that the decision was based on the directives of HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

He said HH instructed the Company to carry out a survey seeking the public opinion on increasing or reducing the fees. The survey was carried out in response to His Highness's keenness to reduce the burden on motorists who involve in minor accidents.

The three-month survey showed that 35% of people wanted the minor accident report fees to be increased, while 65% wanted them to be decreased to Dh300. Some of the public proposed charging a nominal fee of Dh50 for accidents against unknown drivers. These fees would draw the attention of drivers to park their cars in a way that does not block traffic flow. The findings of the survey were submitted to HH, who approved them and instructed to be implemented with immediate effect.
