Abu Dhabi Traffic Police, effective Saturday, started resetting speed limits in both fixed and mobile radars to match with a government scientific and technical study which recommended amendment of new speed system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
 
Simultaneously with the new system, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi city mounted traffic signs and laid a layer of rough red concrete on some roads to slow motorists as they enter city areas with speed-limit changes.

</span< p>Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police applied the new speed limits in Abu Dhabi Emirate based on a study and evaluation of speeds on the road of the Emirate in collaboration with the main partners which are the Transport Department, Abu Dhabi Municipality, Al Ain Municipality and the Western Region Municipality.
 
Brig. Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate urged motorists in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region to abide by the new speed limits which will go into effect across the emirate today. The speed limits were fixed on the traffic signs on the different roads according to the magnitude of traffic and the engineering specifications. Speed limits in residential areas have been set between 20kph and 40kph.
 
Al Harithi pointed out that the Directorate commenced adjusting fixed and mobile radars to coincide the new speed limits, urging the motorists to obey the instructions of traffic personnel, and fully abide by the temporary speed limits on the traffic diversions and project sites on the internal and external roads.
 
There were no modifications made to speed limits in these areas: Abu Dhabi to Al Ain (from the Bani Yas Park Bridge to Al Sadd area); Abu Dhabi to Dubai (from Al Mufraq Bridge to Seeh Shuaib and from Al Shahama to Seeh Shuaib); as well as Suwaihan Road (from Al Shawamikh Bridge to Al Hair).
 
On the other hand, Abu Dhabi Municipality announced that all its procedures to implement  the new speed limits have been carried out, effective Saturday to reset the speeds on the roads of Abu Dhabi Island. This has been achieved after evaluating the results of speed on the roads of the Emirate in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, Transport Department, the Municipalities of Al Ain and Western Region.
 
Eng. Abdullah Al Shamesi Deputy Executive Manager of the Municipality’s Infrastructure and Assets confirmed that this project comes within its strategy to enable the plans, programs and preventive procedures which realize safety for all the segments of the community including the motorists and road users. He indicated that the Municipality has accomplished all the necessary actions and engineering measures, in accordance with the best world practices and as per the needs of the UAE and the Region.
 
In this regard, he pointed out that the Municipality has adjusted the speed signs on the internal roads of Abu Dhabi Island, and will later adjust the speed limits on all the internal roads of Abu Dhabi Island. The Municipality, he added, will take the initiative to implement some procedures on the transitional distances as an experimental study in the area located after Al Maqta Bridge towards Abu Dhabi marking the end of the  highway and the beginning of the residential area where speed are low.
