Abu Dhabi Police stepped up police traffic patrol vehicles at various locations in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to be prepared for emergency situations.

Directorate of Traffic and Patrols at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters called on drivers and road users to exercise caution while driving in changing weather conditions or when visibility decreases due to fog or wind.

Lieutenant Colonel Jamal Al Ameri, Head of Public Relations in the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police urged motorists to pay attention when the sand creeps into the highways , especially with presence of solid construction leftover, the trunks of trees or palm fronds which  may cause a serious risk to traffic safety, pointing out that only one traffic accident occurred yesterday on the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain road because of excessive speed and accumulation of sand on the road.

Motorists need to focus on the road for fear of any obstacles called Al Ameri, warning of the use of hazard lights in such circumstances and preferring to call the operation rooms if they notice any of these obstacles.

In the rain and before start driving, motorists need to ensure their vehicles are ready and the wipers, cooling and heating system are in sound condition, Al Ameri noted. After starting their journey, motorists also need to maintain proper following distance, and avoid pressing the brakes suddenly to prevent skidding. They also need to check the brakes and lights of the vehicles.

Driving in the fog or during changing weather conditions requires more attention from the part of motorists, he added. Excess speed during the fog might lead to surprises which motorists can not avoid on time he said, stressing that motorists and road users need to be cautious in the city center or on highways when there is strong wind which causes significant lack of visibility.

Motorists are also called to exercise much caution in the city center when there is wind or changing weather conditions, especially when they park near buildings under construction. They should commit themselves to the speed limits, switch on lights whenever needed and maintain sufficient distance from the car in front to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

They should also be watchful in the rain, especially when approaching bridges, water puddles or near turns, where water accumulates significantly. They need to slow down so that they are able to control driving in such weather.

On the other hand, the Abu Dhabi Police also called on land trips lovers to avoid   camping in low places, have their cars checked, avoid driving in places of unknown depth, in addition to avoid pass through the water currents on foot, especially if The water level is above the knee, and monitor their children, and preventing them from swimming or playing in the pits, which may form after rainfall.
