MoI Traffic Coordination Committee discusses
 the plan of the Fourth Campaign under the slogan "They are not aware of the Risk"

 

MoI Traffic Coordination Committee held a meeting yesterday morning, chaired by Brigadier Gheith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General of MoI Traffic Coordination at the Department of Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department.

The meeting reviewed and discussed implementation of the fourth traffic campaign under the slogan "They are not aware of the risk", which will kick off on the first of December and continues for three months, as part of the Traffic Sector strategic initiatives.  

The meeting also discussed the proposal submitted by Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, regarding the microbuses "14 passengers" and statistical indicters of traffic accidents during the first ten months of this year, at the country level.

The meeting recommended the importance of intensifying awareness campaigns, continuing implementation of traffic control at the country level and dealing with traffic accidents hot spots.

The Committee also discussed the recommendations made by the Child Health Conference, which was held recently in Dubai. The meeting called for intensifying media campaigns, fighting child injuries resulting from traffic accidents, showing the dangers of seating children on the front seats of vehicles, booking drivers who violate child seating rule and organizing training course for traffic elements on how to deal with children, especially during traffic accidents.

The meeting recommended a communication mechanism with Education Zones, school directors and Supervisors to ensure that vehicles were not driven by young people and teen agers. Importance of use of helmets by cyclists should be stressed.

The Committee also discussed the violations committed by car rental offices and urged that the transfer of customers offence to driving licences, as the driving licence is valid for ten years only. Car rental offices should collect offence fines through credit cards. 

The Committee proposed that the Departments of Traffic and Licensing in the country should include traffic offences in the traffic system within ten days from the date of offence. Car rental offices should given six months grace period to regularize thei status when decision is announced; These offices should be linked with the federal traffic system to enter customers data.

At the end of the meeting the Committee Members decided to submit their recommendations to higher authorities for appropriate decisions on them.
