The Ministry of Interior intends to put in place a technical examination mechanism for the used, non-conforming vehicles imported to the State, in cooperation with the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology “Muwasafat”. It will include new procedures on the issuance of an examination certificate and a conversion process, which details will be announced later.

In parallel, “Muwasafat” has revealed its intention to introduce amendments to the technical examination form for vehicles, especially with respect to tires and passenger buses for less than 22 passengers, and will be in force as of the beginning of next year.

In a joint meeting, the Ministry of Interior, the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology “Muwasafat”, “ADNOC Distribution”, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company for Distribution and “Emirates General Petroleum” have tackled a package of proposed measures for vehicles examination in order to agree on a mechanism in this regard at the State level.

Lieutenant Colonel Suhail Al Khaili, Head of Vehicle Licensing in Abu Dhabi Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Directorate, said that the unification of procedures for issuing an examination certificate and a vehicle conversion ensures its validity; that it is free from technical defects, and ensures its conformity with the adopted Emirati Metrology Standards, compatible with International and GCC standards.

He stressed that ensuring public safety in vehicles is given a significant attention from Abu Dhabi Police, in order to preserve the safety of individuals and avoid accidents, emphasizing on the technical examination and the safety of procedures while using the vehicle.

Lieutenant Suhail Al Khaili explained that the imported used vehicles, non-conforming with the Emirati standards are examined in Abu Dhabi licensing Department , pointing out that the examination is based on the customs’ certificate, stamped with the seal of conformity or non-conformity to the Emirati standards.

“Vehicles are converted from the Northern Emirates after making sure it conforms to the Emirati metrology standards adopted in this regard”, he added.

The statement of the vehicles converted from the Northern Emirates should be mentioned, if it complies or not with the Emirati standards.

The representative of the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology "Muwasafat" stated in the meeting that the amendments that will be introduced to the technical examination form for vehicles would be based on the new technical regulations adopted by the Authority Board of Directors. He confirmed that awareness campaigns and workshops for workers will be implemented in the examination and registration centers in the State to explain the new requirements and amendments, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior in order to unify the procedures and requirements in the centers at the State level. He also stressed on the Authority keenness to provide safety and security in all vehicles.

It is noteworthy that the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology "Muwasafat" and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company for Distribution "ADNOC Distribution" offer technical examination procedures services for used and imported vehicles to the State, as well as its conform statement to the Emirati metrology standards adopted and compatible with GCC and international standards, and the examination certificates issuance for vehicles conforming with standards in all the technical examination centers of "ADNOC Distribution" in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
