Boarding pass reading technology at e-gates

Abu Dhabi Police has activated the system of boarding pass reading at e-gates as anew service to e-gates users, at Abu Dhabi International Airport and Dubai International Airport as a first phase. The service will be extended to all country airports to enhance security efforts and passengers service.

Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of ADP Central Operations said “Emirates e-gate contributes to the developed appearance of the country through the use of modern technologies to deliver distinguished services and to save time and effort. The addition of the new system to the e-gate does not impede the quick use of it. You just new few seconds to cross it”.

“ADP and due to the directives and close follow up of HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior has achieved a quantum leap forward in the use of advanced technologies and utilizing it in all aspects of security work. Thus ADP achieves highest degrees of excellence in performance and development of security services, in line with scientific and technological progress in the world”, added Al Risi.

“The UAE is the first country in the Middle east which uses this new technology through the e-gates. The aim of this system is to facilitate and accelerate travel procedures and to develop data storage mechanism through the e-gate”, said Mr. Mohammad Ahmed Al Zaabi, Director of the Emirates e-gate Project.

He continued “The new system can read the boarding pass carrying the magnetic tape or the barcode. The system can also read the boarding pass data sent on mobile phone by passing the phone through the reading device”.

The use of the system is very easy. It only takes very short time. The whole job begins with

1)      Placing the UAE Gate card on the Emirates ID card in the reader slot (Emirates ID card if activated with UAE Gate service only).

2)      Scan the barcode on your boarding pass or in your mobile or insert your boarding pass in the reader.

3)      Enter the UAE Gate and scan your finger print.

Guiding sign boards have been fixed on e-gates at Abu Dhabi and Dubai International Airports explaining to gate users the procedures to be followed in dealing with boarding pass readers.
