The Abu Dhabi Police GHQ called upon the public to take extra precaution and safety measures during inclement weather. Police and traffic patrols have been increased across different locations in the Emirate due to the weather changes and rain across the country.

Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, urged citizens and residents to take necessary safety measures and be vigilant during inclement weather.

He urged motorists to abide by speed limits on roads and avoid sandy hills and high places during rainy and foggy weather.
 
The Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior’s Office, has prepared awareness guidelines for the public through social media sites such as Facebook and Google+.

Lieutenant Fatima Al Shehhi, Manager of the Internet Branch said: “The instructions focused on tweets to urge motorists to check their rear and front lights and to use them even during the day. The tweets also focused on windshield wipers and advised drivers to leave sufficient distances between cars.”

The Radio Branch broadcasts awareness messages during bad weather targeting motorists via Holy Quran Radio and Emarat FM.

Alia Al Rumaithi, Director of the Radio Branch at the Security Media Department said: “Guidelines via radio are broadcast automatically when it rains in order to communicate with road users directly and deliver these instructions to them while they are driving.”

“Awareness messages focus on educating motorists on what to do during heavy rain regarding emergency signals, using lights, reducing speed, avoiding overtaking, maintaining a sufficient distance between vehicles, and stopping on the roadside when necessary. Additionally, we have prepared a prerecorded radio announcement to be broadcast through different radio stations mainly in the morning and evening when fog tends to form,” she explained.

Al Rumaithi called upon motorists to avoid using hazard lights unless it is an emergency and to use only low-beam lights. She also urged them to be careful and focus on the road, while using traffic signs for guidance. “Motorist should check their windshield wiper blades and avoid speeding when it rains even if the weather becomes normal with no fog. We urge parents to postpone their trips if the weather is bad,” she said.

The National Center of Meteorology and Seismology expects unstable weather for today as more clouds cover different areas allowing for a chance of occasional rains. Winds speeds are moderate to strong, bringing dust to open areas. Clouds are present. 

Winds are northeastern to northwestern with a speed of 15-30 km/h in general, with wind gusts of 50 km/h, along with the presence of cumulus clouds.
Sea is moderate, sometimes choppy, with cumulus clouds. Waves are 2-4 feet at the coast, and 5-7 feet in deep water.
