750 tailgating offences in two days in Abu Dhabi
Unmarked police cars registered a total of 750 traffic violations of tailgating on internal and external rods in the first two days of the traffic safety campaign launched by Abu Dhabi Police under the theme “Leave space before it is too late”.
The campaign was in response to the directives of HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. During the campaign The Department of Traffic and Patrols, marked and unmarked patrols cars stepped up traffic control to curb traffic accidents on internal and external roads of Abu Dhabi City during the campaign.
According to Lt. Colonel Hamad bin Eitheith Al Amri, Head of the Traffic Investigation Section at ADP Traffic and Patrols Department, most of the fines were issued on Al Khaleej Al Arabi and Mahawi Streets, in the direction of Abu Dhabi. The majority were registered during peak hours, morning and noon.
Most of the drivers booked were young and were not keeping a safe distance from vehicles in front. Thus annoying other drivers and increasing major risks on internal and external roads, said Al Amri.
16 unmarked police cars, well-equipped 4WD and light vehicles, were patrolling the roads around the clock. He urged all motorists to respond to traffic police efforts, which were intended for their safety and for booking them. He focused on young drivers who annoy other drivers ahead of them. They should refrain from such behaviors and comply with traffic rules and regulations for their safety and other road users’ safety.
It is worth mentioning the campaign which its implementation is followed up by the Department of Technical Affairs and Security Media at the Secretariat General of the Office of HH the Deputy prime Minister and Minister of Interior, will continue for seven days. It will focus on keeping safe distance between vehicles to protect all road users against accidents and their adverse consequences.
