Lt Colonel Mohammed Mayouf Al Katbi, Director of the Vehicle and Licensing Department, stated that the conditions ruling the vehicles engines’ change are strictly precise. According to these conditions, chassis should not be welded or perforated and the new engine’s base should comply with the old engine and free from any additional parts.
"The angle of deviation and height of the new base should be identical to the old one. Moreover, the focal point should be in its proper place and highly efficient insulation should be used for electrical wires and fuel hoses", he added.
The Traffic and Patrols Department at the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, in cooperation with the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of HH, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, had launched an awareness initiative to increase traffic awareness among young people, and inform them about the risks of adding new accessories and illegal modifications to cars and motorcycles engines; to increase their sound and speeds on public roads.
Starting from the 10th of next June, the Directorate will implement a crackdown campaign to arrest the offenders who modify their cars and motorcycles’ engines without any license, in line with its new role to reduce this phenomenon, which reflects an uncivilized image, that does not suit the country’s new status of development, modernization, compliance with the law, and public safety and environmental protection. This kind of vehicles and motorcycles is a main source of disturbance due to their loud roar, particularly in residential areas, as well as a source of confusion for other motorists and pedestrians alike on public roads, in addition to the environmental pollution and noise they may generate.
Penalties may lead to the seizure of the accessorized cars and motorcycles for a duration of one month in addition to a fine of 900 Dirhams through the application of two articles against offenders. Moreover, punishments may include the seizure of the cars causing noises for a duration of one month and a fine of 500 Dirhams; a fine of 400 dirhams will be charged on cars with modified engines, according to the relevant articles.
