Ministry of Interior discusses setting up a register
for sex offenders against children
The Sub-committee for Legislative development and Organizing Controls of the Higher Committee for Children Protection at MoI has held a meeting at ADP GHQ, chaired by the Advisor Mohammad Ahmed Al Hamadi, from the Ministry of Justice. The Sub-committee has discussed creation of a register for those who commit sexual crimes against children and to coordinate with the Committee for Organizational Structure Study, regarding the setting up of MoI Center for Children Protection.
The meeting was attended by Lt. Colonel (Dr.) Jamal Saif Faris, Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Major Fayssal Mohammad Al Shamari, Member and Rapporteur of the Higher Committee, Adel Mohammad Al Ali, from The Committee Secretariat, Adam John Liyan Jackson, Legal Advisor, Yahya Othman Suleiman, Legal Expert, Ahmed Mohammad Sabar and Abdul Baqi Abdullah Yaaqoob, Legal Translator.
The Advisor Mohammad Ahmed Al Hamadi, Chairman of the Committee reviewed the Higher Committee for Children Protection objectives, and its role in curbing the crimes committed against children.
The Chairman of the Committee said "The Committee will work on finding appropriate legislations that impose harsh punishments against those who commit sexual crimes against children".
In the same context Major Al Shamari said "It is important to toughen penalties against children abusers, pointing out the remarks stating that some offenders repeat their crimes. This affirms the need for tougher punishments. WE need to study the possibility of developing mechanism for gathering data on related crimes (Especially electronic crimes), linked with children. He pointed out the virtual means to deter culprits".
The Committee recommended further study of toughening punishments issue related sexual crimes against children and women and the mechanism of distributing work among members of working teams as appropriate.
