Within its efforts to activate e-Government, the Ministry of Interior called on citizens, GCC residents, residents and visitors who obtained their visas from the border port of entry to register in the Electronic Ports’ project “E-Gate”, to facilitate and speed up travel procedures and ensure a smooth traffic and transit of passengers across all border points; through the e-gates that perform iris recognition scans, and passport data readers. Registration begins as of tomorrow “Sunday”; travelers are required to bring their passports in order to complete the registration process from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm.

The Ministry of Interior has set registration dates in 6 centers across Abu Dhabi as follows: Marina Mall center, (from June 9th till June 13th) , Abu Dhabi Mall center (from June 23rd till June 27th), Al Wahda Mall center (from July 7th till July 11th), Al Khalidiyah Mall center (from July 21st till July 25th), Al Mushrif Mal center (from August 4th till August 8th), Dalma Mall center (from August 18th till August 22nd), Bawabat Al Sharq E-Gate  (from September 1st till September 5th).

Major General Ahmad Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ stressed that the Electronic Ports’ project comes in line with the instructions of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to establish a modern system of operation at border points to   facilitate and speed up travelers’ procedures and support traffic safety and security across these points.. He pointed out that this project is the first of its kind in the UAE; which is the first country in the world to implement 3-biometrics (iris recognition, fingerprints and face recognition). It also ensures a smooth traffic and transit of passengers across all border points; through the e-gates that perform iris recognition scans, and passport data readers in less than 20 seconds.

“The first phase of the new program has been implemented in Terminals 1 and 3 at Abu Dhabi International Airport Arrivals and Departures Halls.  Modern E-Gates have been provided. This aims to serve all passengers and provide them with all means of comfort. Ultimately, the project will be implemented in all the State’s airports, at later stages in the future”, stated Major General Al Raisi.

Moreover, Major General Ahmad Nasser Al Raisi indicated that a promotional media campaign is currently being organized to introduce the project and spread the culture of optimal use of E-Gates among the family members. Concluding, he pointed out that the campaign will include a free registration service in the E-Gates for all segments of society, as well as citizens, residents, GCC residents, and visitors who obtained their visas from the border port.

It is noteworthy that the new E-Gates allow children to go through the E-Gates with their parents if they are five years and above. They are also suitable for disabled passengers who can help themselves.
