Unifying the criteria and systems used at the DNA laboratories in UAE has been discussed at the seventh meeting of the Emirates DNA Team which was recently held at Al Ain Police Directorate.
 
The Team led by Col. Dr. Expert. Ahmed Al Marzouqi, head of DNA Database Center in Abu Dhabi Police Forensic Evidence Department, discussed the strategic plan for the current year 2011 which comprised disseminating the culture of DNA among the police, judiciary and prosecution staff members, as well as writing reports related with cases of proving linage and relationship.
 
“The team presented the agenda of the regional and international conferences which will be held this year”, said Col. Al Marzouqi, who stressed importance of cooperation with the police internal partners as well as external ones.
 
“Field visits to criminal and civilian labs using DNA technology, including the laboratories of the UAE University, Ministry of Health, Environment Authority, will be organized”, added Al Marzouqi.
 
The Team, he clarified, will organize meetings with criminal biology and DNA specialists to exchange information. In addition, training workshops on the world’s latest DNA technologies will be held.
 
The Team includes in its membership. Col. Expert. Ahmed Hajji Al Sarkal, from Sharjah Police Forensics Department, Lt. Col. Expert Maryam, from Abu Dhabi Police Forensic Evidence Department, Capt. Expert. Hussein Al Ghanm, from the Dubai Police Forensics Directorate General, Alyah Al Maqdahi, from Ras Al Khaimah Police, and 1st Warrant Officer. Fatima Al Mesmari, from Al Fujairah Police.
