Having recovered from the injuries they sustained in the line of duty towards the nation and society, the Bani Yas ambush team expressed their gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, for his tireless commitment to care for all citizens without any exception. The team was involved in a shootout, while trying to arrest a drug dealing gang last year.
Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, met some of the team’s members in his office on Monday afternoon. His Highness inquired about the health of the Officer and his colleague who got injured in the process, and whether they can continue performing their duties normally.
Both men were part of the team who carried out an ambush, during February of last year, in the Bani yas area to arrest drug dealers; and sustained different injuries. His Highness, President of the UAE, provided a private jet to transfer them abroad to undergo further treatment.
His Highness reassured citizens, and stated: “Our Officers are fearless and always ready to perform their duties at any cost”. Moreover, he lauded the Ministry of Interior’s determination, in collaboration with other governmental entities, to pursue the efforts to eradicate drugs and arrest dealers. His Highness also shed light on the significant risks and devastating negative impacts of this phenomenon on the stability and development of society.
The Anti Narcotics Department had organized an ambush to arrest a drug dealing gang; where one of the suspects agreed to sell an undercover police officer 20 kgs of hashish.
The suspect arrived on foot at the designated time, to verify the sum of money he’s about to receive. Feeling suspicious, he opened fire on the vehicle, wounding the officer and his deputy, before fleeing the scene.
Mutual efforts exerted by both the police and border guards, led to the arrest of the suspect, while trying to flee the country.
