Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Lit. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far got briefed on the development plans and programs implemented by the General Command of Civil Defense, the achievements made by the regional department in 2011 and the development plans for the year 2012, during an inspection visit he made to the General Department of Civil Defence, Dubai.
He was received upon his arrival at the department’s building, by Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Acting Commander-in-Chief of Civil Defense and Brigadier Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, Director General of Civil Defense in Sharjah.
He was briefed by General Al Matroushi on the statistical data for accidents occurred during the year 2011 which witnessed general decline in all the emirates.
Al Sha’far directed to set up development plans for various aspects of the infrastructure of civil defense services, especially human, to ensure continuous decline in the number of fires and minimize the losses in property and wealth, and focusing on the scientific and professional training and rehabilitation of officers and members of civil defense, and raising the degree of readiness and preparation and dissemination of preventive education among all age groups and social and economic sectors.
He also stressed the need to promote prevention, safety and control services in all buildings, including high-rise buildings, being a key indicator of the evolution of civil defense services, and an important factor in providing a safe environment for the community.
He called for expanding the use of modern technologies in the civil defense services, to ensure the protection of lives, property and the environment.
He urged to provide civil defense services on the highways in collaboration with the Departments of Traffic and patrol across the country, and to study and analyze safety observed on these highways and the nature of incidents that occur in different seasons and sites, and hence make scientific and appropriate practical solutions to reduce the number of accidents, thereby achieving the highest degree of safety for users of those roads.
He underscored the importance of sharing experiences and disseminating best practices among all regional departments in terms of operational, awareness and administrative , to achieve customer satisfaction with the civil defense.
Lit General Al Sha’far’s tour, where he was accompanied by Major General Al Matroushi, included the Customer Service Centre and the Department of the Approval of Engineering Plans at the General Department of Civil Defense.
