Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters urged citizens and residents not to use fireworks, especially among children and teenagers, to avoid the dangers they may pose to individuals, noting that combating this scourge is a social responsibility.
Abu Dhabi Police launches as of tomorrow, Sunday, August, 12, a media campaign to raise awareness on the risks of fireworks, including a number of tips and guidance targeting individuals to highlight these risks, through the various media, as well as awareness programs, explaining the risks on the users of fireworks and people around them.
Abu Dhabi Police called on the public to report on any negative practices by calling the emergency number (999) and via the “Aman” service on (8002626).
Major General Mohammad Bin Al-Awadi Al-Menhali, Director General of Police Operations in Abu Dhabi Police, said that the campaign complements the campaigns and efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police to raise community awareness on the dangers of using fireworks and to address these risks to ensure public safety for all. Al-Menhali pointed out that launching this campaign coincides with the approach of the Eid El Fitr festivities, as children express their joy by playing with fireworks, hence the need to educate them about the safety hazards of using them.
He added that the campaign promotes awareness among the public and establishes the concept of partnership between the police institution and society on a large scale, through the Security Media which helps widely spread its messages, and implement the awareness campaign on the risks of fireworks. Al-Menhali also praised the cooperation of all the media entities in this regard.
Furthermore, Al-Menhali stressed the importance of the family's role in educating children and instilling positive behaviors in them, as well as directing them to find alternative entertainment to fireworks. He urged parents to take advantage of the awareness programs to learn about the dangers of fireworks, and called on individuals to refrain from negative practices and behaviors that may cause physical harm and environmental pollution, not to mention the fires they might start, threatening the safety of community members and their properties.
Al-Menhali expressed his hope for cooperation and concerted efforts from all, in order to combat this phenomenon, as well as to support this campaign, which promotes the efforts exerted to eradicate the scourge of firework use.
It is noteworthy, that children tend to excessively use fireworks during holidays and occasions; this poses a risk for their safety and the safety of others, particularly when used, unaware of their risks.
