The Abu Dhabi Police is currently preparing to qualify the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Department to obtain the ISO 20000 certification during a workshop recently organized in cooperation with a specialized company. The workshop was held at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi with the participation of a number of international speakers; the most prominent of which is Sharon Taylor, Executive Director of Aspect Group Inc. in Canada and Chairman of the International Forum for Information Technology Services, Publishing Section.

Colonel Anwar Abdullah Al Mulla, Head of ICT Department at the Abu Dhabi Police noted that the workshop presented a set of concepts and standards for the management and development of IT operations. It shed particular light on managing technical services in a policing environment. The workshop also reviewed its globally distinguished experiences and expertise in this field of work.

“The workshop keeps pace with Abu Dhabi Police’s ongoing developmental efforts to achieve excellence and progress in applying international best practices and providing services. Notably, the workshop features competent and experienced international speakers,” explained Colonel Al Mulla.

Furthermore, Colonel Al Mulla reviewed the various achievements and initiatives accomplished by the department; namely, the qualification of 30 officers and employees as Information Technology Infrastructure Library v3 experts (ITIL v3 Expert), in line with the strategy to add greater value to services and adapt them with international best practices.

Colonel Barakat Yaaqoub Al Kindy, Head of the System Development Division, commended the high level of the workshop and speakers. He also lauded the topics presented, which tackled best practices in the field of electronic services management and showcased the best relevant global experiences that benefited the department and its quest to obtain the ISO 20000 accreditation.

Major Nassima Mohamed Al Awadhi, Director of the Databases Branch at the department and director of the ISO 20000 accreditation project, explained that the workshop is the beginning of a series of relevant workshops based on best developed practices in service management. Moreover, she pointed out that the project aims to improve, develop, and monitor the activities of the ICT Department in order to obtain the ISO certification.

“Working teams were formed to fulfill the necessary requirements to obtain the ISO 20000 accreditation. This would be achieved through a multi-phase action plan starting with the set-up and followed up by rehabilitation and application as the final phase,” said Major Al Awadhi.

The workshop was attended by Major Saeed Al Kuwaiti, Head of User Information Security at the Security Information Department, along with a number of officers and employees of the department.
