The Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ called on vehicle owners that have old plates with valid or invalid registration to visit the service centers to replace them with new plates. The department also requests vehicle owners with unclear numbering on their plates to visit the centers for replacements.
The department gave owners a deadline that ends on January 31 to replace old and unclear plates.
Lieutenant Colonel Suhail Al Khaili, Head of the Vehicles Licensing Section, said: “The time it takes to replace plates is very short; we have all of the necessary facilities to avoid any delays and help vehicle owners benefit from the deadline. When the deadline is surpassed legal measures will be taken against vehicle owners whose old or unclear plates are not replaced.”
“Despite the increase of cars registered in Abu Dhabi Police, replacing plates will unify all plates in the emirate and cope with all the relevant updates according to international quality measures and standards,” he added.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Khaili continued: “The Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department at the Abu Dhabi Police started the trial phase on the new plates in September 2011. Old ones were replaced by new ones upon vehicle registration, renewal, service request, and lost or damaged replacement.”
New plates are better looking, numbers are clearer, and security features are enhanced and difficult to forge. Due to new metal fixers, which can only be removed in the centers, the new plates are protected against theft.
“The department is working within the Abu Dhabi Police system to provide facilities to clients and maintain our open-door policy, through our customer service centers, in collaboration with 25 other entities, which are involved in solving problems facing customers. We also answer any enquiries regarding required documents and procedures on: 600-577-777. Furthermore, customers can send complaints and suggestions through the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s website,” Al Khaili said.
