Two hundred pupils enrolled in the Abu Dhabi Police summer program for children of staff members; the program is organized by the Sports Clubs and Activities Department of the Abu Dhabi Police, and is being held at the Al Jazeera Club.
The program includes activities such as football (soccer), karate, bowling, swimming, painting, Arabic calligraphy, and trips.
Colonel Aref Saif Al Shamsi, Director of Sports Clubs and Activities Department said that the program is supervised by expert trainers with the aim to fill the free time of students through sports, cultural and entertainment activities.
He added that the number of registered students in the program was estimated at 200 students, noting the desire of fathers as well as children in joining the program and making better use of the children’s free time.
The activities for the Al Ain Police staff children launched on 24 June will continue to 18 July. Held for the third consecutive year, the program is organized in the facilities of Al Ain Police Officers Club and is attended by children from 67 officers in the police. The children’s ages range from eight to fourteen years-old. This year, the scope of the participation was extended to female students in order to encourage them to better utilize their free time.
In cooperation with the Zayed House for Family Care, a group of cultural specialists introduced the children to the history of the nation, its forefathers, and the customs of the Emirati community in order to enhance the children’s cultural understanding. In addition, they encouraged students to maintain the community cultural heritage when receiving guests; taught them how to prepare the delicious Emirati coffee the traditional way and how to use old tools used by the forefathers; told stories of the wonderful Emirati history; and discussed how old generations overcame the difficulties of life they used to face.
The children of the police officers expressed their interest and actively participated while being taught the traditional Yola dance skills, as a means of expressing happiness during occasions.
The students also attended swimming, horseback riding, and football practices. These activities were highly welcomed by students, as they promoted competition between students in different races that were organized.
Female students also participated and interacted in the summer program by attending an introductory lecture on the community police role, which was delivered by Sergeant Fatima Saeed Al Muqbali. She also spoke on the tasks and duties of the community police, its policy, and its general objectives to promote confidence among society members and the police, in addition to enhancing police services provided to community members.
