"Abu Dhabi Traffic" set up remote traffic control system
Colonel (Engineer) Hussain Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of ADP Traffic and patrols Department has revealed the introduction of a new remote traffic control system, which uses a network of digital cameras connected to the police control room, which is provided with monitors and stands for monitoring traffic flow. Digital cameras are fixed and deployed at intersections and internal roads of Abu Dhabi City.
"By these electronic devices traffic flow can be monitored remotely. The violations include expiry registration, jumping red lights, not adhering to lanes, sudden turn, not leaving safe distance between vehicles etc. The offence will be registered remotely as well", added Al Harthi.
"The new system will be operated in coordination with traffic signals control center at Abu Dhabi Municipality and the Central Operations room at ADP GHQ. The aim of this new system is to make use of and employ smart systems, achieving best traffic safety standards to curb traffic accidents. The rate of deaths due to traffic accidents dropped by 20% in the first quarter of this year as a result of operational efforts", added Al Harthi.
"ADP is not happy when handing out traffic violation tickets, neither is their aim to do a thing like that. But reality shows that traffic control methods deter reckless drivers and motivate them to adhere to traffic rules", added Al Harthi.
He warns drivers that their violations will be monitored through an advanced TV Circuit at ADP Central Operations Room. It is linked with a wide web of modern cameras deployed on different roads of the City.
