The Traffic and Patrols Directorate in the Abu Dhabi Police, organized traffic awareness programs in coordination with the SAAED Society Board to Reduce Traffic Accidents. The programs, which fall under the Borouge and Takreer Health, Safety and Environment Campaign for 2012, at the Sheikh Khalifa Energy Complex in Abu Dhabi, are in line with the method of communication and strategic partnership between the Directorate and Petrol Companies that contributes to raising the level of traffic education and improves traffic safety.
Lt. Colonel Jamal Salim Al Ameri, Head of the Public Relations Department in the Traffic and Patrol Directorate, stated that: “The lectures focused on the negative effects caused by traffic accidents and their painful results represented by the social, human, and economic losses.”
He added: “Traffic awareness messages were delivered through explanatory tools and methods of interactive communication about the importance of commitment to traffic laws, the dangers of using mobile phones while driving, as well as the importance of seat belts and the need to pay attention to all road users whether pedestrians or drivers.”
Al Ameri pointed out that the Directorate focused on improving the level of traffic education through the awareness exhibition regarding safe driving during changing weather conditions, especially in the case of low visibility due to rain, dust, or fog.
Visitors were given guidance through explanatory tools about the necessary precautions to be taken in order to avoid traffic accidents, in case of low visibility. Traffic awareness programs were provided as well, which outlined the dangers of running red traffic lights, and the need to slow down next to a pedestrian crossing and giving pedestrians priority to cross. Traffic awareness publications were also distributed and answers were given to the visitors regarding the traffic law.
