An Arab psychopath attacked his 60-year old father with a cleaver with the intent of killing him, in the family home in the Al Khalidiya area, Abu Dhabi, before fleeing the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the son had bought the cleaver with his allowance money and hid it in his room. Subjugated by his psychological state, he fell under the illusion of being at risk, which led him to attack his unsuspecting father during the night.
Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammed Borshid, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department stated: “The victim was rushed to the emergency room where he was treated from the bleeding resulting from his injury. Police members confiscated the murder weapon and went in pursuit of the perpetrator who had fled the scene. When the young man was arrested, he was taken to a psychiatric hospital to be examined”.
In detail, Colonel Borshid indicated that the son (A.M. -30 years old), attacked his father (M.E – 60 years old) on the head and arm in an attempt to kill him, with a cleaver he had hidden in his room. The panicked family members reported the incident to the police.
Borshid added: “According to the data, the suspect showed signs of mental disorder (chronic schizophrenia). His family had previously taken him to a competent psychiatric clinic, but lately, he had stopped taking his medications, which caused deterioration in his condition.”
Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Abu Dhabi Police expressed regret for such crimes, urging families with children suffering from mental or nervous disorders to learn the best ways to deal with them, and anticipate their sudden unexpected behavior, in order to prevent such incidents and protect both patients and community members.
