The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi, recently discussed mutual cooperation with the General Women's Union regarding the launch of an awareness campaign on dealing with domestic workers at the countrywide level.
Major Majed Abdullah Al Tamimi, Chief of the Media and Public Relations Section at the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi, tackled the Ministry’s role in raising awareness on the proper means to deal with domestic workers. He also explained that temporary workers in the UAE, including domestic workers, are regulated under contracts, hence the need to enhance awareness among all society segments on the nature of this relationship.
For her part, Ms. Ahlam Al Lamki, Director of Research and Development at the General Women's Union, hailed the Ministry of interior’s participation in this awareness campaign, which was organized under the auspices of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairperson of General Women's Union; Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation; and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood (Um Al-Emarat "Mother of the Emirates"). “This campaign aims at ensuring the stability of the social fabric and preserving the family structure. It is also designed to educate women via awareness and educational programs on dealing with domestic workers in a way that would promote stability within society,” she said. She also explained the structure of the campaign, which was launched under the slogan “A stable family and an ideal domestic worker”. Then Ms. Al Lamki enumerated the different entities involved in this initiative and showcased the proper ways to provide them with the appropriate resources to achieve the desired goals.
The meeting was attended by a number of officers and officials from the General Women's Union, who stressed the importance of expanding the scope of joint action regarding women’s affairs in particular, within the future plans.
