The Coordinating Traffic Committee at the Ministry of Interior discussed the country-wide statistical indicators of traffic accidents that took place during the first quarter of this year in comparison with the same period of 2011.
The meeting, presided over by Brigadier Gaith Hasan Al Zaabi, Director General, Traffic Coordination Department, Ministry of Interior, was held in Vehicles & Drivers' Licensing Department in Sharjah. The meeting reviewed the causes of traffic accidents that kill and injure many persons including citizens as well as the time and the place of their occurrence.
The meeting, held for the third time this year, also discussed the participation of the concerned groups regarding traffic security, especially families, schools, and social institutions. It also discussed the essential cooperation with the Community Police to raise awareness in families concerning the dangers resulting from the traffic accidents, organize field visits explaining the real dimensions of traffic problems and the resulting damages, and launch campaigns that enhance traffic awareness.
Brigadier Al Zaabi asserted on the necessity of the committee’s role to establish policies and find suitable mechanisms to reduce traffic accident rates diminishing the human and financial losses, and establish traffic security on roads according to the directives of the police commandment. These directives are aimed at reducing traffic accidents and improving traffic behavior. He assured that these steps will help to achieve the strategic goals of the Ministry of Interior to establish traffic security in different regions in the UAE.
During the meeting, the participants affirmed on the need to intensify permanent patrols and form control teams around-the-clock to supervise traffic and other issues related to traffic security.
At the end of the meeting, participants gave many recommendations to be presented to the officials in order to make appropriate decisions.
