Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols General Directorate issued a total of 128 fines for motorists who were driving their cars below the minimum speed limit over the past year.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate, stated that the main cause for traffic accidents are the drivers who do not comply with the designated minimum speed limit and drive too slowly or do not abide by the traffic safety laws and regulations, thus endangering their lives and the lives of others.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi explained that driving at less than the minimum speed limit obstructs and disrupts traffic flow and lead to traffic jams and traffic accidents, stressing that offenders shall be fined to 200 dirhams according to the law.

As part of the "Until When" awareness campaign programs launched by the MoI, Al Harthi appealed to motorists to promote social solidarity in order to reduce traffic accidents and urged them to respect the designated speed limits, to focus while driving, to commit to the designated lanes on the internal roads of the emirate and abroad, to leave a safe distance between each vehicle and to respect the instructions and traffic signs on the emirate's roads.

Al Harthi also called on motorists to drive carefully and to reduce speed near traffic lights, pointing out that high speed increases traffic accidents. He added that legal regulations have been set to deal with traffic security offenders.
