In cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Directorate represented by the Al Qubesat Civil Defense Station, the Directorate General of Punitive and Correctional Establishments at the Ministry of Interior, carried out a successful mock drill to evacuate staff of its main building and extinguish a “fire” that broke out on the second floor.
Teams from the Directorate General of Punitive and Correctional Establishments, the Directorate General of Central Operations at the Ministry and Al Qubesat Civil Defense Station took part in the drill. Several other entities also participated in the drill, including the Traffic and Patrols Directorate; the Department of Emergency at Public Safety at Abu Dhabi Police; and the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
As per the scenario, the Operations Room received a tip-off on the outbreak of the “fire” at 9:00 am. As soon as the fire alarm sounded, emergency teams immediately rushed to the site and evacuated the building in record time, pending the arrival of the competent police entities, the Civil Defense and backup entities that handled the incident professionally and efficiently. Ambulance and rescue crews provided first aid care to two people who were injured in the accident.
Brigadier Dr. Yusuf Rashed Al Hamidi, Director General of Correctional and Punitive Establishments at the Ministry of Interior, pointed out that that the drill was carried out in pursuance of the Environment, Health and Occupational Safety system project. “Such drills contribute to assess the readiness of relevant teams in dealing with such accidents, in order to preserve lives and property; to boost training efficiency and readiness through hands-on drills and scenarios; and to assess readiness of relevant entities in dealing with such emergency situations,” he explained.
