The 2015 INSARAG Global Meeting on Search and Rescue subcommittees continued their meetings to discuss a number of topics related to search and rescue teams, in preparation for the meeting that will take place on October 18 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
The Training Committee convened in the presence of Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense. The participants established a number of training programs tackling the basics of emergency response and field work for search and rescue teams, and for teams of volunteers who represent the first local responder to disasters, pending the arrival of international support. These programs are designed to ensure that search and rescue teams carry out their duties in the best possible way.
On the same note, the Medical Committee held a meeting to discuss the quality of medical services that medical groups operating as a part of the search and rescue teams must provide to the injured during natural disasters. The attendees also discussed the need to provide medical care to members of search and rescue teams around the clock for the duration of the mission.
The Guidelines Committee, in charge of developing the general policy and the five-year 2015-2020 strategy for search and rescue teams, discussed in its meeting the need to set a well-defined road map to streamline the work of search and rescue teams. “This road map will also help rescue workers achieve the objectives of the search and rescue mission, in terms of saving human life,” noted the attendees.
